Staying on the theme of cheap travel tips -- I've been a subscriber of the Smarter Travel newsletter for about 4 years and it is VERY helpful. They send you a weekly email with general travel tips, trends, and specials (great about letting you know when limited time specials are going on), and you can also sign up for weekly email alerts with airfare specials from cities you specify. You'll want to sign up for alerts from nearby cities -- for instance, I get their email alerts on departures from New Orleans, Houston, and Dallas, because they're all within reasonable driving distance from where I live.
